Technology will help keep work zones safer in Kentucky

Work zones can be dangerous, and Kentucky is rolling out new technology to improve safety for both drivers and road crews.
Starting next month, automated cameras will monitor speed and traffic violations in real time at selected work zones, including one along U.S. Route 23 in Lawrence County. The cameras use radar and transmit data to officers on-site.

Violators will be stopped like any normal traffic stop and could face fines up to $500.

Flashing signs and warnings will alert drivers as they enter the monitored zones.
