Deer hunters asked to donate meat this season

Hunters across West Virginia are being asked to help fight hunger this season.

Governor Patrick Morrisey has proclaimed November as Wild Game Meat Donation Month, urging hunters to share their harvest through the Hunters Helping the Hungry program.

Successful hunters can donate venison by taking their deer to participating meat processors. The meat is then distributed by Facing Hunger and Mountaineer Food Bank to hundreds of pantries, shelters and meal programs statewide.

Last year, nearly 600 deer donations provided thousands of meals. Officials say with more than 270,000 West Virginians facing food insecurity, every contribution helps.
