The City of Hurricane has unveiled a new Civil War Trails marker highlighting the 1863 Battle of Hurricane Bridge. Installed last week on Midland Trail, the marker explains how the small skirmish became an important Union victory that protected a major supply route between Richmond and the Ohio River.
Historian Dr. Philip Hatfield, who helped bring the marker to town, says it gives residents and visitors a chance to understand the community’s past. Mayor Scott Edwards and local families attended Friday’s unveiling ceremony.
