Lincoln County 911, working with the county commission, has applied for a state grant to build two new radio communication towers. The request asks the Public Service Commission for more than seven hundred sixty-nine thousand dollars, with the county contributing just over two hundred thirty-two thousand. One tower would go up along Route 37 in Ranger near the Wayne County line, an area known for dead zones in both radio and cell service. The second tower would be built near the Mud River Recreation Area. First responders say the region’s steep terrain often makes it difficult—or sometimes impossible—to reach dispatch or other departments during emergencies. The towers would also improve coverage into parts of Wayne and Mingo counties. If the grant is approved, construction on the Ranger tower would begin in spring of 2026 and take about six months to complete.
