Nitro teen was a victim of sextortion

Deputies in Kanawha County say a 15-year-old Nitro High School student who died by suicide earlier this month was the victim of an online sextortion scheme. Investigators say evidence shows Bryce Tate was contacted by an unknown individual on social media just after 4:30 p.m. on November 6, and the conversation continued until minutes before his death. Sextortion involves offenders posing as other teens and coercing victims into sending explicit images, then threatening to release them. The FBI Pittsburgh office has taken over the investigation.
