School consolidation could happen in Roane County. The district is considering closing Walton and Geary K-8 schools and merging them into Spencer Middle and Elementary Schools. Public comments wrapped up Tuesday night.
Superintendent Michelle Stellato says the move could save about $1.4 million a year and help reduce the county’s budget deficit, though some residents worry about crowding. Roane County Schools have been under a state of emergency since July after going over budget on the new Spencer Middle School.
