The West Virginia National Guard has released updates on continuing efforts to address food scarcity amid delays in Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program. Late last month, more than 200 Guard members were activated to transport and distribute food. On Monday, the WVNG released updated numbers:
900,000+ pounds of food delivered
14,000 miles driven
45 counties served
40 food pantries assisted
Aside from moving supplies for pantries, Facing Hunger and Mountaineer food banks, the WVNG plans to assist two mobile food pantries this week, according to our news partners at Eyewitness News. More than $13 million in state funding has been released to aid West Virginia food banks.
