Appalachian Power restoring power to thousand of customers after high winds

Appalachian Power is working to restore service for customers impacted by high winds that are ripping through West Virginia. Much of the power company’s territory is expected to experience gusts strong enough to topple trees and bring down utility lines. Storm response crews preparing for multiple rounds of winter weather that could put customers in the dark, but high winds and freezing temperatures can stall restoration efforts. As of Monday afternoon, hundreds of customers in Clay, Kanawha, McDowell, Mercer and Wayne counties were without service, according to numbers from Appalachian Power.
