Driver faces charges in crash that killed a former lawmaker

A man has been charged with DUI in connection with a crash that killed former West Virginia lawmaker Tony Whitlow last month. Chad Noel faces a charge of DUI resulting in death after a head-on collision in Princeton on November 12.

Troopers reported smelling alcohol, noticing slurred speech, and finding open vodka bottles in Noel’s vehicle. Both men were hospitalized, but Whitlow, 92, a longtime delegate, senator, and Mercer County assessor, was pronounced dead.

Noel had a blood sample drawn for testing and was later airlifted to a Virginia hospital. He was taken into custody Monday and is being held on a $250,000 cash-only bond.
