Major drug bust has ties to West Virginia and two other states

Drug Enforcement Administration officers in Kentucky report seizing nearly 89 million lethal doses of fentanyl so far this year.

According to the DEA’s Louisville Field Division, agents confiscated about 390 pounds of fentanyl powder and more than 170-thousand fentanyl-laced pills during operations across Kentucky, West Virginia, and Tennessee.

On Monday, President Donald Trump signed an executive order classifying fentanyl as a weapon of mass destruction, expanding federal efforts to curb trafficking.

DEA data show nearly 325-thousand Americans have died from synthetic opioids since 2021.
