Mayor makes a recommendation for the next city attorney

Charleston Mayor Amy Shuler Goodwin is recommending former assistant city attorney Joseph Baldwin to become the city’s next City Attorney. The appointment will go before Charleston City Council for a confirmation vote on January 5.

Baldwin previously served the city from 2019 to 2022, working on municipal taxation, drafting legislation, and handling cases before state courts. He also brings experience from the Intermediate Court of Appeals and earlier work in both circuit courts and private practice .

Baldwin is a Charleston native and Capital High graduate.
