Erin Brockovich says she’s stepping in to help Wayne County as the community faces an ongoing water crisis.
The longtime clean-water advocate posted Wednesday that she’s aware of the situation in the town of Wayne and is organizing assistance. Residents there have been without usable drinking water for about two weeks after vandalism at Appalachian Power’s East Lynn substation caused thousands of gallons of oil to spill into a nearby waterway that supplies the town’s water.
State and local officials have issued a “do not consume” order, with recent tests still showing traces of oil in the system.
Brockovich says she’s working with water expert Bob Bowcock to deliver carbon filtration to help remove oil from the water and is asking residents to share information and look out for one another.
