Family Treatment Court program hopes for additional funding from state lawmakers

West Virginia Delegates heard a presentation this week from the state Supreme Court of Appeals on the Family Treatment Court program. The specialized court helps parents struggling with substance abuse work toward recovery and reunification with their families.

The Supreme Court is requesting $1.4 million in funding after grant money that supported the program last year was nearly exhausted.

Family Treatment Court was created in 2019 and graduated its first class in 2020. Supporters say the program provides accountability, treatment, and encouragement, helping parents overcome addiction, regain custody of their children, and build stable futures.
