A West Virginia senator from Taylor County is calling for sweeping reform of Child Protective Services following the death of 11-year-old Miana Moran. Senator Jay Taylor addressed the Senate floor, urging lawmakers to confront failures in the child welfare system after details emerged about CPS involvement before the girl’s death in February of last year. Prosecutors say Miana’s father and custodian have been indicted on murder and child neglect charges, alleging years of medical neglect and food deprivation. Eyewitness News reported that there is an internal investigation into CPS handling of the case, and Taylor says legislation is now being drafted to overhaul oversight, accountability, and transparency within the agency, with the goal of restoring public trust and preventing future tragedies.
