Suspect in WVNG shootings has two more charges

The suspect accused of shooting two West Virginia National Guard members in Washington, D.C., faces even more charges stemming from the shooting, prosecutors said. Rahmanullah Lakanwal, 29, of Afghanistan, faces two more counts of assault with intent to kill, according to a release from the United States Attorney’s Office for the District of Columbia. U.S. Attorney Jeanine Ferris Pirro said that the new charges are for two additional victims, who were the two National Guardsmen who were able to subdue Lakanwal at the scene. Lakanwal is accused of shooting U.S. Army Spc. Sarah Beckstrom and SSgt. Andrew Wolfe on Nov. 26 near the Farragut Square Metro Station near the White House. Both were in the nation’s capital serving as part of a WVNG deployment at the request of President Donald Trump, Beckstrom, 20, died the next day from her injuries, while Wolfe, 24, continues to recover at an undisclosed rehabilitation facility.
