Wayne County water is clear

The latest lab results from samples in the town of Wayne’s water system did not find signs of transformer oil contamination amid a two-week-long crisis, according to state officials. The West Virginia Department of Health issued a news release Thursday night saying samples collected on Jan. 27 came back with no signs of transformer oil that leaked into the nearby waterway and eventually contaminated the Wayne water distribution system. Additional testing by the West Virginia Department of Environmental Protection earlier this week is expected to inform when the town’s “do not consume” order could be modified or lifted. West Virginia Gov. Patrick Morrisey has approved funding for Wayne to retain an engineering firm to evaluate the operational components of the facility and identify any needed upgrades or improvements.
