The Kanawha County Board of Education has voted to extend Superintendent Paula Potter’s contract for three more years at her current $180,000 salary.
The decision follows the board’s annual evaluation, which cited both significant challenges and meaningful progress during Potter’s tenure. Board President Ric Cavender said Potter has brought consistency and transparency at a critical time for the district, noting gains in academic performance and financial stewardship.
The board said it believes stability is essential and expressed confidence in Potter’s leadership moving forward. Potter became superintendent in July 2025 following the retirement of Tom Williams.
