A Sissonville man convicted in the death of a woman whose body was dumped in a well has been sentenced to prison.
Michael Wayne Smith was sentenced Tuesday to life with the possibility of parole after 15 years in the 2021 death of Cheyenne Johnson.
The sentence follows a recidivist trial in December, where Kanawha County prosecutors proved Smith was a repeat offender, citing prior convictions dating back to 1998.
Johnson’s body was found in a deep well in Sissonville in May 2021. She had multiple stab wounds and had been shot in the head.
During sentencing, Smith repeatedly disrupted the courtroom, prompting added security, and said he plans to appeal.
