State Capitol hosts Black Policy Day to raise awareness and build community

The West Virginia Legislature hosted its fifth annual Black Policy Day at the State Capitol, bringing together lawmakers, advocates and community leaders.

The event focuses on policies impacting Black communities across West Virginia, including economic development, health care and education.

Dr. Shanequa Smith, co-organizer of Black Policy Day, said the goal is to unite groups with different priorities to help build stronger communities statewide.

Organizers say they are closely watching legislation related to education and economic policy during this year’s session.
