Charleston police say a suspect is in custody after a man was shot Sunday evening.
The shooting was reported just before 6 p.m. on Veazey Street, according to a Metro 911 alert. Investigators say 33-year-old Brandon Groom is accused of firing multiple shots at the victim, hitting him at least once below the knee.
A criminal complaint says surveillance video later showed Groom throwing the gun into the Kanawha River.
The victim described the suspect’s clothing, and officers soon found Groom nearby wearing the same outfit.
He was taken into custody and charged with malicious wounding.
