Gee ordered to give a deposition in Ohio State sexual abuse case

Former WVU and Ohio State administrator Gordon Gee will be deposed in a federal trial over what Ohio State University knew about sexual abuse by former team doctor Richard Strauss.

A judge has ordered Gee to testify in a case brought by survivors, who say the university ignored or covered up abuse that spanned decades. Ohio State denies those allegations.

Strauss abused hundreds of male student-athletes between 1978 and 1998. He left the university with emeritus status and later died by suicide in 2005. The allegations did not become widely public until 2018.

An independent 2019 investigation found Gee was at least somewhat aware of concerns at the time. Records show Strauss wrote to Gee in 1997 seeking help, and Gee told investigators he would take no further action.

The court has ordered Gee to sit for a deposition by April 17.
