Nitro Regional Wastewater has a new owner

West Virginia American Water has officially acquired the Nitro Regional Wastewater Utility from the city in a $20 million deal approved by state regulators.

The system serves about 4,500 customers in Kanawha and Putnam counties. The company says it plans to invest more than $42 million over the next five years to repair and upgrade infrastructure.

West Virginia American Water took over wastewater service Tuesday and says customers will receive transition details by mail. Customers will also be able to manage a combined water and wastewater bill online.
