Park Place Cinemas in Charleston is set to reopen after nearly two years.
Charleston Mayor Amy Goodwin announced Monday that the theater is expected to reopen Wednesday, April 1. Charleston City Council still must approve a resolution authorizing a lease agreement with the Greater Charleston Theater Company and Entertainment Group to operate the theater, but that is expected to pass.
Under the proposed agreement, the city, which owns the building, would receive a portion of revenue from every movie ticket sold.
Park Place Cinemas, in the 600 block of Washington Street East, closed May 6, 2024, after 43 years in operation. ABC 8 said former owners cited declining business and the high cost of upgrades as reasons for shutting down.
