Kanawha County is in the Orange on the Latest Color-Coded Map

Five new counties were added to the orange category Saturday night in West Virginia’s latest school re-entry map. Putnam, Wayne, Mingo, Mercer and Monroe counties joined Kanawha, Logan and Fayette counties in orange. Monongalia replaced Monroe as the state’s only county in red. The orange designation means those eight counties will be required to start the school year remotely and cannot transition to in-person or blended learning until they return to yellow or green. Athletics and extracurricular activities will be limited to controlled practices only unless the counties test all athletes and staff with zero positive results. The next update by the WVDE is scheduled for 9 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 12.
