Kanawha County Schools Prepare for Increased In-Person Learning

Kanawha County Schools is preparing for a five-day week of in-person learning beginning October 12th for students who are signed up for it. Superintendent Tom Williams said the decision to skip an extra planned week of blended learning came after several teachers requested to do so and the board approved by a narrow margin. 13,000 of Kanawha County’s roughly 25,000 students will be returning to school Monday based on last name. Students will have to wear masks. HVAC systems have been cleaned in every school and filters have been replaced. Plans could change depending on the county’s status on the state’s color-coded map Saturday at 5 p.m.

Riverside High School is closed Thursday, Oct. 8, after a potential COVID-19 case. The school will be closed to in-person classes Thursday out of an abundance of caution, according to a message from Kanawha County Schools.
