Sheriff’s Office Warns Of A Secret Shopper Scam

The Kanawha County Sheriff’s Office is warning the public of a secret shopper scam. A Cross Lanes resident received a text message inviting them to be a secret shopper at major stores and get paid for feedback on their experience. The resident responded to the text message and received a letter and check in the mail, with instructions to deposit the check and purchase gift cards and text the gift card numbers to the scammer. Deputies said the check would bounce when it gets to the bank’s processing center.
