Kanawha County had sought more than $8.2 million for a school consolidation project that would involve the closure of Cedar Grove Middle School, but it did not receive funding for the project from the state School Building Authority.
The project was not included in the more than $70 million in funding approved Monday by the SBA. The West Virginia states school board last week approved the closure of Cedar Grove Middle School, but the local plan was contingent on receiving funding for renovations to the current middle school building. If approved, middle school students would be moved to DuPont Middle School and the Cedar Grove building would house elementary students. Our partners at WCHS TV reported that funding for one area project that did receive SBA approval was a request by Roane County for a new Spencer Middle School. Roane County had sought $13.9 million from the SBA.
