Charleston Police Offer Incentives for Recruits

The city of Charleston has sweetened incentives for city police recruits. A $15,000 sign-on bonus is being offered for the first five West Virginia-certified officers the city hires, according to a Facebook post from the Charleston Police Department. Test dates are being held at the Charleston Coliseum and Convention Center at 8 a.m. July 10 and July 24. The starting salary for a Charleston officer is about $45,000 with opportunities for overtime, Public Employees Insurance Agency health insurance, a wellness center for employees and their dependents and college incentive pay.
