Governor Justice Sets New Vaccination Goals

With more than 1 million West Virginians now having at least one coronavirus shot, Gov. Jim Justice announced Tuesday officials will be raising the goals for the percentages of those 50 and over. Justice said 87.3% of those 65 and over have received at least one COVID shot, surpassing the earlier goal of 85%. The new goal for that population will be 90%. Justice said 79.4% of those 50 and over have received at least one vaccine, surpassing the previous goal of 75%. The new goal will be 85%. For the overall population, those 12 and up who are eligible for the shot, the current percentage of those who have received at least one dose is at 64.5%, closing in on the goal of 65%. The state continues to hold weekly vaccine incentive prize drawings and 330,000 have registered for today’s drawing.
