Nicholas County’s school superintendent released a statement, saying that students and staff will not be required to wear masks or socially distance when school starts Aug. 19. Superintendent Donna Burge-Tetrick said, however, that masks will only be required if West Virginia Gov. Jim Justice, the West Virginia Department of Education, or the West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources issues a mandate requiring them for public schools.
The superintendent said the West Virginia Department of Education will issue additional guidance to school systems later next week.
