The Cabell-Huntington Health Department said this week that the West Nile Virus has been found in mosquitoes in the county. No human cases have been reported and it’s not uncommon to find the virus in mosquitoes during the summer months. There is no human vaccine or specific treatment for West Nile infection so prevention is key. The health department’s mosquito surveillance team traps mosquitoes and sends them to the state Office of Laboratory Services for viral testing. You can reduce risk by using insect repellant and removing standing water around your home.
