The West Virginia Division of Highways said the Oakwood Road intersection project is nearly completed, and drivers soon will have a new traffic pattern on Corridor G in Charleston. The DOH said the project opens today and will be the first “R-Cut” in the state. “R-Cut” stands for restricted crossing U-turn. The design is meant to allow for shorter wait times through an area known for traffic backups and it allows for fewer places where traffic intersects at lights as a way to reduce potential wrecks, according to the DOH. The new R-Cut at the Oakwood interchange on Corridor G is expected to improve traffic flow by eliminating left-hand turns and through traffic off Oakwood Road. The DOH said at the former intersection design, drivers on Oakwood Road and Corridor G had to wait for left turn arrows before moving through the intersection, causing longer wait times.
