A Girl Scout from Charleston has received the highest honor possible thanks to a project that brought attention to financial barriers some face with providing extracurricular activities. Zoe Dorst, an ambassador in the Girl Scouts of Black Diamond Council, recently received the Gold Award, the highest possible achievement in the Girl Scouts organization. Dorst developed a project to raise awareness of financial barriers many low-income families face when it comes to providing activities outside of the school system. Because of the high cost of dance lesson and the program being underfunded in schools, Dorst created videos teaching dance lessons and shared them on social media channels.
