Logan County deputies said two parents were shot to death by their son who then fled the scene and was killed in a standoff in Mingo County. Shawn and Karen Dempsey were identified as the two parents who were shot to death Monday on Brogue Drive near Dingess, according to the sheriff’s office. Deputies said the couple’s son, Shawn Dempsey Jr., shot his parents and then took off in a vehicle, heading toward Mingo County. A pursuit ended in a standoff, where deputies shot and killed the suspect. West Virginia State Police are handling the investigation.
