A Kanawha County man was honored Monday night at the St. Albans City Council meeting for his efforts in trying to save a woman at a house fire. On Dec. 4, Jeff Mullens pulled a woman from her burning home. Mayor Scott James confirmed the woman did die a few days later, but he said the man gave her family a few more days with her. St. Albans firefighters said the fire started in the kitchen and was spotted by neighbors who saw smoke. They rushed over and pulled the woman out of the house. The woman then flown to a burn center.
