First Day Hikes are Encouraged at State Parks

Parks nationwide are encouraging Americans to participate in the First Day Hikes initiative by taking a walk in the woods on New Year’s Day. A series of guided hikes have been scheduled throughout the Mountain State on Jan 1. The free hikes vary in terms of length and difficulty so park visitors may walk within their comfort zones. Most hikes range from one to three miles and are suitable for all ages. First Day Hikes are designed to showcase the natural beauty of state parks and guides provide information on the area’s history, wildlife, and points of interest. Hikes are planned at Chief Logan State Park, Pipestem Resort State Park, Tygart Lake State Park and several others. There’s more information on the West Virginia State Parks web page.
