Special Metals Strike Negotiations Resume

Special Metals and the United Steelworkers Local 40 union are back at the negotiating table this week in Huntington to try and settle a strike that has been going on now for more than 100 days. After 75 workers on strike received a layoff notice on Saturday, union officials said the negotiating session will not just focus on the contract but also focus on which of the jobs can be potentially saved. The laid off workers do have recall rights which means if the positions open back up within the company, Special Metals will have to call back the laid off workers first and offer them the job before offering it to outside workers. The layoffs go into effect Feb. 7.
