The American Lung Association’s annual “State of Tobacco Control” report shows little progress has been made in the Mountain State. The report found West Virginia earned failing grades on passing policies to reduce and prevent tobacco use, including e-cigarettes. West Virginia was graded in five categories and received F’s in four of those categories. The only D came in “Strength of Smoke-Free Workplace Laws.” The American Lung Association recommends an increase in funding for tobacco prevention and preserving local control of smoke-free air laws throughout the state. The association also reported one of the most effective ways to reduce tobacco use is to increase the tobacco tax.
