Crews Work to Fill I-64 Potholes

State highways officials said they are working to fill some of those miniature craters that have opened up on Interstate 64 near St. Albans. The West Virginia Department of Transportation said drivers will continue to experience temporary lane closures throughout the week as contractors work to fix the potholes between the St. Albans and U.S. 35 exits. The DOT said repairs have been complicated because asphalt plants are shut down for the winter, and contractors are unable to get asphalt to fill the potholes. Crews have been using a cement-based product to repair the holes. Highways officials said they are talking to a local asphalt plant to see if the plant can open early. Asphalt plants typically don’t open until early March.
