No Major Damage After Saturday’s Oil Spill

Inspectors with the West Virginia Department of Environmental Protection checked area streams Tuesday after a mineral oil spill in the Little Coal River in Boone County Saturday. The spill, which investigators said was an act of vandalism, happened in Madison and was traced the oil to a leaking power transformer at an old coal mine site in the Jacks Branch area. Inspectors checked streams in Madison at the Little Coal River to the Pond Fork sediment pond and did not see a sheen. There has been no evidence of harm to fish or wildlife.
