Former East Bank Volunteer Fire Chief Faces Embezzlement Charges

The former East Bank Volunteer Fire Chief was arrested and accused of embezzling nearly $100,000 from the department over ten years. Thomas Tucker was arrested and charged with embezzlement after a three-month investigation by the Kanawha County Sheriff’s Office. The criminal complaint states Tucker was in charge of the station’s credit cards from Mar. 8, 2010, to Aug. 16, 2021. Deputies found a list of unusual purchases: groceries and liquor, engine work for a Ram Diesel Truck owned by Tucker, and a boat battery was purchased the same day Tucker posted he Facebook he needs a boat battery. Current East Bank VFD Chief James Stamper released a statement that says the department has and will continue to work with investigators. Tucker is on a personal recognizance bond, and he will be back in court on Mar. 8 for his preliminary hearing.
