Governor Expects More Information Soon on Virgin Hyperloop Project

Gov. Jim Justice said this week he did not have a clear picture yet of Virgin Hyperloop’s future projects in West Virginia after a report that the company was abandoning its plan to develop a high-speed passenger transit system. The company, which announced plans in 2020 to locate a certification facility for its transportation system in Tucker and Grant counties, reportedly laid off nearly half its staff and abandoned plans for its passenger system to focus on cargo shipments, according to a report by the New York Post. Justice expects to have more information soon. The land the company planned to locate on was donated to the WVU Foundation in partnership with Virgin Hyperloop. The proposed transportation system would transport people or goods in pods through a vacuum tube at speeds exceeding 600 mph.
