A teenager from Elkview who is accused of murdering four members of his family will now have his case tried as an adult. 17-year old Gavin Smith was 16 when he was charged with four counts of first-degree murder for the shooting deaths of his mother, stepfather and two younger brothers in December 2020. Prosecutors made a motion to move the case from juvenile to adult status at a hearing Tuesday and the judge agreed. Prosecutors are now able to present Smith’s case to a grand jury. Rebecca Walker who was Smith’s girlfriend at the time of the crimes, pleaded guilty as an adult in July to four counts of accessory after the fact to first-degree murder.
