The former director of operations at Canaan Valley State Park and Resort pleaded guilty to charges in a fraud investigation. Michael Chaney pleaded guilty to five counts of felony embezzlement. The State Auditor’s Office said $165,000 used to buy personal items, including elaborate Christmas decorations and guns. Chaney was sentenced Wednesday by Tucker County Circuit Court Judge Lynn Nelson to one to 10 years in prison, with the sentences to be served concurrently. The embezzlement was first discovered in October 2020.
