The trucking industry is short some 80,000 drivers and President Joe Biden is highlighting his efforts to address a truck driver shortage. The President pointed to new apprenticeship programs and efforts to attract veterans and women to the key part of the supply system undermined by the pandemic. Schooling is still required at places like OV Truck Driver Training School in Williamstown. WCHS TV said enrollment at the driving school is nearly at pre-pandemic levels and things are slowly rebounding. The American Trucking Association would like to see government provide infrastructure improvements, like more parking for big rigs at interstate rest areas.
