A Man Faces Several Charges After a High-Speed Chase

An armed robbery in Kanawha County led to a high-speed pursuit and an arrest Sunday. Damien Lee Phillips has been charged with robbery, grand larceny, fleeing and DUI, according to a news release from the Kanawha County Sheriff’s Office. Officers said Phillips stole a vehicle from a victim at gunpoint in the parking lot of Riverside Nursing Home in Jefferson and they tried to make a traffic stop near Center Street in Nitro. Phillips sped across the Nitro – St. Albans bridge and eastbound on MacCorkle Ave at speeds in excess of 100 mph, according to deputies. The chase ended at Kanawha Terrace in St. Albans and Phillips fled on foot before being taken into custody. Investigators said a search of the vehicle revealed a BB gun pistol and Phillips to be under the influence of drugs and alcohol.
