Funeral services are today for fallen Charleston Police K-9 Axel. The police dog is being hailed as a hero after being shot by a suspect who was struggling with two other police officers. The services for K-9 Axel will happen today at the Charleston Coliseum and Convention Center. The City said visitation will start at noon, and the service will begin at 2 p.m. The visitation and the service will be open to the public.
The services will be in the Grand Hall, accessed through the Quarrier Street entrance. Axel died Saturday after being shot on East Point Drive by suspect Samuel Paul Ranson of Charleston, who police were trying to arrest on a malicious wounding warrant.
