The defense attorney said a high-profile sex crimes case only exists against his client because of “social media, public perception and politics.” A preliminary hearing was held this week in Logan County Magistrate Court, and WCHS TV said attorney Matthew Hatfield defended Michael Cline of Logan. Cline was arrested Feb. 9 after a lengthy investigation by West Virginia State Police that started after posts were made on social media claiming Cline had sexually abused and assaulted women when they were underage. Troopers served a search warrant Jan. 27 at Cline’s popular Stratton Street coffee shop, Hot Cup, in downtown Logan. The judge this week found probable cause existed on all of the charges and sent the cases to the grand jury. He also did not lower Cline’s half-a-million dollar bond.
