The Town of Milton is getting over $100 million in additional federal funding for the Lower Mud River Flood Risk Management Project. Senator Shelley Moore Capito and Senator Joe Manchin said the town is getting $190.7 million from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. The project will construct an flood-reducing levee that is 8,300 feet and 1.5 miles along the Mud River. The levee will have an average height of 19 feet, with the highest point reaching 26 feet. It will begin in east Milton and extend 2,000 feet before reaching the Mud River. It will then extend to the Bill Blenko Drive bridge, continue 2,000 feet to Newmans Branch and then river to high ground near the embankment of Abbot Street. The project will also include a 33-foot wide gate closure and two pump stations.
