More funding will help protect native Candy Darter

This month marks the 50th anniversary of the enactment of the Endangered Species Act which protects threatened and endangered species along with habitats nationwide. To mark the occasion, the Department of the Interior along with the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service announced more than $62 million has been allocated for species recovery, including the endangered Candy Darter, a fish native to West Virginia’s upper Kanawha River Basin. Darters can be found in the Gauley, Greenbrier and New rivers.
